Queer Craft and I collaborated to create a video essay analyzing Steven Universe the Movie and how the character Spinel highlights the cycle of abuse. Although watching Steven Universe the show gives context for the movie, its themes are powerful regardless.

Spinel and her backstory show us that hurt people really do hurt people. But despite this, despite the pain unfairly inflicted and the trauma caused by others, the cycle of abuse doesn't have to control us. With effort, you can make a change.
